Name: Mio 美桜

Race: Phantom

Gender: Female

Age: Appears to be in her mid 20’s

Height: 5’4” (162 cm)

Type: Phantom of Guilt/Self-Condemnation - Human who committed suicide - Mio has a surrounding aura of guilt. Anyone near becomes unable to think of anything else except all the mistakes and regrets they have made in their lifetime and additionally, increases the self-loathing of oneself. In her phantom form, the cherry blossoms from her wings carry a powerful scent that lures stray souls right to Mio. These cherry blossoms can be carried by the wind and a wide range can be infected with such flowers.

Personality: Adaptable / Sharp / Calm / Creative / Dubious / Ambitious / Curious / Manipulative

  • Mio is the one usually standing on the sidelines and analyzing situations, never one to instigate a fight unless she sternly believes she is correct. She knows when to stand her ground and when to flee. The phantom is agile at adapting to situations and has a knack of getting out of trouble, all thanks to her wit. Very quick to be doubtful or suspicious and doesn’t fully trust anyone. Independent and goal-oriented, she manages well on her own and would rather spend time with herself than others. However if something ever piques her interest, she’s not afraid to adventure on a little and be nosy. Resourceful and knows how to get what she wants. Her natural talent in acting is used to her everyday advantage.

History: Mio Fujiwara was born as the only child into a humble family and had a happy childhood. Growing up, her family went through many financial hardships and Mio grew wary. In her early years of highschool, her father was hospitalized because of a heart attack. Wanting to help out the family income, the girl decided she would quit school and get a full-time job. However, her father slapped her when hearing of her decision: “Mio, you have a brain that is smarter than your mom’s and mine combined. Study Mio, study hard. You must study and pour all the knowledge you can into that big brain of yours. To become successful, to have a bright, happy future….I want you to have it all. I don’t want you to endure hardships like your mother and I.”

With a few tears and a promise, Mio received her Ph.D at the age of 26. With her determination and her dad’s support from behind, she became very successful as a psychiatrist and her name was given recognition. Many patients flooded to her center and fortunately, she never had an unsolved case….until that fateful day. A young, anorexic girl in her second year of highschool was the hardest patient that Mio ever had: Nagasaki Ruka. She wouldn’t open up no matter what. What was even worst was that her face only showed one emotion; just a look of concentration, scratching away at her chair with a pencil...day after day. Medication was prescribed yet the situation did not get any better. When Mio’s patience grew to a thin thread, her impossible patient looked her straight in the eye then violently sobbed. When her session was done, Mio was getting ready to go home when a pen fell and rolled towards the patient chair. For some reason, the psychiatrist stared at it as if it was the answer to her solution……..and then it clicked. Hurriedly examining the chair, Mio found the words: “Help me.” Shaken, the woman called the Nagasaki home but no one picked up.

It was too late. A funeral was held for the young girl and many attended. Ruka’s parents blamed their daughter’s death on Mio and tried to sue her. Auspiciously, the sue did not go through as Mio won the case at court. The news was out and the press came to tackle the story at the center. Interviews and client sessions were declined and slowly but surely, Mio fell into a depressed state. She tried to believe the words and encouragements she had been given by her friends and co-workers. They all supported her, kept convincing her that it wasn’t her fault…...but the face of Ruka’s hollowed cheeks, sunken eyes...it gave her nightmares. She felt as if the world was accusing her. The pressure was such a heavy burden, accusations here and there. The guilt trip was too much for her to bear. That one incident would haunt her life forever until her death. Weeping as she stepped onto the bridge, the woman jumped into the roaring rapids.

Her life as a phantom in the beginning was all about surviving. Gaining territories and earning a reputation. Hiding from gods and their shinkis. She haunted the bridge where she ended her life, luring humans and consuming lost souls.
